Keeping Tabs

Since Jason Mattera is busy not serving I wonder what he's been up to?
According to spokesman Jason Mattera, the foundation aims to groom high school and college students to be future leaders by exposing them to conservative philosophies that he said were missing from many classrooms.

"We're teaching them about limited government, strong national defense, traditional values and free enterprise," he said. "Young people need to awaken."
Apparently teaching "strong national defense" doesn't have to include serving Our Country in uniform.

Nothing is Shocking Anymore

Fox News host, Glenn Beck, encourages servicemen to not re-enlist (via).

Whoa. Glenn is trying to thrust his cowardice onto all. It's impossible to know how many times he got his ass kicked over his lifetime.

Cold War Going Retro

Meet Jordan Richardson, president of the College Republicans at Marshall University. Mr. Richardson is gravely concerned about getting nuked in his Huntington, WV frat house.
The film is a one-hour documentary produced by The Heritage Foundation, a conservative public policy research institute, that suggests a ballistic missile fired from anywhere in the world could hit a U.S. target in 33 minutes or less.

"It's a very real threat that we have knowing that at any moment dangerous people in the world would threaten us with a ballistic missile," said Jordan Richardson, president of College Republicans. "I think this was a very good display of why we need to continue (missile defense)."

Richardson said he thinks it is important for members of the group and other people to be educated about this threat.

"Missile defense is not something every knows about," Richardson said. "In 33 minutes, life as we know it in America could be over."

Of course if Jordan decided to enlist after college he can help nullify the nuclear threat before the bad guys get a shot off. Unfortunately his biography tells us he's more interested in attending law school and political activism. Good thing it's not too late and we can contact Jordan and encourage him to Be A Man! Enlist! before he sets off down his wussy path. After all if this threat truly is as dangerous as he believes why wouldn't he take 4 years out of his life to join The Military to protect Our Country?

Huh?

They may be overstating their case, but since I grew up with Atari it's difficult for me to imagine how influential a modern gaming system is.
"30 percent of all Americans age 16 to 24 had a more positive impression of the Army because of [America's Army] and, even more amazingly, the game had more impact on recruits than all other forms of Army advertising combined."

Sunnyvale CA has Real American Leadership

Meet Otto Lee, City Council Member and former Mayor of Sunnyvale, California. He's also a member of the Naval Reserve and has been deployed to Iraq. See how you can support him, and his community, while he is serving our nation in a war zone.

OYE salutes CDR Lee and the people of Sunnyvale CA and wishes them all the best.

Looks like we'll still have the Romneys to kick around

Pretty boy Mitt Romney speaks all tough-like. (via Balloon Juice)
But Romney went on to criticize Obama for not holding enough meetings with top generals, and inadequately preparing for the elections in Afghanistan.

"The President has held his job for 10 months but does not yet have a strategy," Romney said during his speech before the Young America's Foundation in Santa Barbara, California. "What has he been doing that is more important than protecting the lives of the troops of which he is Commander-in-Chief?"
Considering Mr. Romney successfully avoided serving during the Vietnam War and his gutless sons never even walked past a recruiting station, maybe he should leave the war critique to someone more credible.

Even lower than a College Republican

What is with this joker?
Burton, of Palm Springs, is expected to surrender to authorities this morning in Riverside on charges of wearing military medals he did not earn. He was charged Friday by federal prosecutors in Los Angeles with the misdemeanor, which carries a maximum penalty of one year in federal prison.

Just Lip Service

From my email:
U.S. Senate candidate Marco Rubio today issued the following statement regarding Veterans Day:
"On this Veterans Day, I join my fellow Americans in remembrance, gratitude and praise for the brave men and women that have served in America's armed forces.
"In the wake of tragedy at Ft. Hood and with many troops currently in harm's way around the world, we are continually reminded of the selfless sacrifices and heroism that exist throughout our uniformed services. We are also reminded of the quiet sacrifices of their loved ones on the home front, whose support and love are also vital to our defense.
"As we pause to reflect on our veterans' proud legacy of defending freedom, we do so with a deep sense of pride and renewed commitment to support them on and off the battlefield.
Yeah, Marco cares so much about Veterans and Servicemen he doesn't even bother to have anything Military related highlighted as an issue on his web page.

Veterans Day

We join all Americans in honoring our Veterans, to include those now serving.

We encourage everyone to continue this tomorrow and throughout the year, not only to support our patriots who have served, but their contemporaries, including by considering volunteering to serve yourself [if eligible], or if not eligible, encouraging your own relatives and friends, your circles of influence, to Be A Man! Enlist!

What would bring our country together is sharing the sacrifice, for those with other options to volunteer. Be part of something larger than yourself. It will change your life. Don't miss out on this opportunity.

We salute those prominent Americans who visit our troops in war zones under the auspices of the United Service Organization [USO], as well as Americans everywhere who support our troops and their families any way they can.

From Iraq: If you know someone serving overseas, even indirectly, the very best thing you can do is to send something homemade. Everyone shares everything and it'll be gone the same day, but the warm feeling of love from home remains for quite a long time.

Bring back Charlie!

What's going on with the College Republicans? I can't believe they're now talking to that liberal rag, The Nation.

Since 1/2 of our readers consist of these rodents I'm a bit worried about them not staying unified. The last thing we need is for them to fragment and some of them actually become credible members of society*. I mean, can you believe this?
Derek Turner, communications director of the CUCR, expresses a similar dissatisfaction with the party. "There are far too many times where I am embarrassed of the Republican Party," he says. "[It] is definitely in disarray.... We are in the midst of soul-searching." Unfortunately, this soul-searching is playing out on a national stage, in which the Republicans with the loudest, most reactionary voices seem to make the strongest impression.
Or this:
David Laska, the 22-year-old president of New York University College Republicans, says, "We need to start paying less attention to the Tom Tancredo wing of the Republican Party. I don't think that wing of the party is as big as some people make it out it be." But if the Scozzafava dropout proves anything, it is that regardless of size, the far right is gaining not only airtime but actual influence within the GOP. For moderate young Republicans, it has become more important that they gain control of their own party than remove Democrats from power.
Where is CRNC Chairman, Zach Howell, when these guys are talking smack about the party? You gotta get your young honkeys in line, Zach. All the dude does is send out Tweets and puts up less blog posts than I do. This isn't leadership! Goddamn, even that parasite Charlie Smith attempted to keep the CR's together. Yeah, yeah everyone knows what a disaster he turned out to be as chairman, like he enjoyed stepping on the pointed end of the rake, but at least Charlie made my life easier. Whenever I didn't have much time to post I just Googled his name and "BAM!" the search returned a stupid statement or act I threw out on OYE.

Get with it, Zach. You can't continue to run the CR's from your Blackberry.

*Kidding here. We'd welcome these idiots to become respected members of society. Certainly would help Our Country in these times and in the future.

What a coward (UPDATED)

Here's what the future holds for all the gutless vermin we highlight here at OYE.

On The Ed Show this evening Markos Moulitsas (Army Veteran), founder of Daily Kos, made former Republican Congressman Tom Tancredo stamp his widdle feet and leave the set. What could he have said that made this 'tough guy' cut and run? It didn't take much. Markos just pointed out that some guys are cut out to serve and others seek deferments, as Tancredo did during the Vietnam War.

Expect this same fate to Matthew Continetti in year 2028.

UPDATE: Here's a little background about Mr. Tancredo. After you scroll down about 1/3 of the way it mentions him being a "Republican student activist" that supported the Vietnam War. But then he needed to secure an additional deferment after graduation so Tommy told the doctors at his physical that he had been treated for depression.

College Republicans have always been a joke.

Update: Tancredo lost the 2010 General Election for Governor of Colorado.

Off Topic

This just made me laugh.
It seems these are the worst of times to be a militant in Kashmir. First, a Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorist was axed to death by a teenage girl in Rajouri roughly a month ago. Now, a bear has mauled two Hizbul Mujahideen militants to death as they hid in its cave in Shopian, South Kashmir.

According to defence spokesman Lt Col J S Brar, the two commanders dared to colonise a bear's cave at Darwal Nar in Pir Panjal in Shopian and paid for it with their lives. For, late on Sunday night, as the two slept, the bear came calling.

Young Republicans on the Radio

Just great. After all there's a real shortage of blowhards on talk radio.
Chair of the New York State Young Republicans Lynn Krogh announced the premiere of an Internet radio program, "The Right Hook.""

This program will discuss hot new items, upcoming Young Republican events and ways for people to get involved," Krogh said.

Read more about it here.

The Young Republicans are full of all sorts of new ideas. I mean no political hacks have ever thought of using the airwaves to get their message out.

We Couldn't Agree More

Bill Moyers from PBS has offered a solution to help Our Countrymen portion out the war in Afghanistan (hat tip).
Let's share the sacrifice. Spread the suffering. Let's bring back the draft. Yes, bring back the draft for as long as it takes the politicians and pundits to fix Afghanistan to their satisfaction. Bring back the draft and then watch them dive for cover on Capital Hill in the watering holes and think tanks of the beltway and in the quiet little offices where editorial writers spin clever phrases justifying other peoples' sacrifice.
Watch it all here:
