Contest: Blog Your Campus

Update II: I'm pulling the iPod from the prize list. Vaughn D. Taylor of Liberal Revolt was donating it, but he got caught up in the hurricane. I'm sure he has more immediate needs to attend to. Nobody entered anything yet, so I hope we haven't disappointed anyone.

Update: Some great prizes have been added--see below for details.

Many of you are familiar with the Freeway Blogger's brilliant work. We'd like to see something similar happening at or near college campuses. To that end, Operation Yellow Elephant is holding a "Blog Your Campus" contest.

Description

Create signs relating to Operation Yellow Elephant's mission to expose the hypocrisy of hawkish College Republicans and other young conservatives who are too cowardly to fight in the war they demanded. Post these signs near roadways and pedestrian pathways on or near college campuses. Photograph your work and send it to me. I'll post them here. In early October, the OYE Contributing Writers and the Freeway Blogger will pick a winner.

How to Make Your Sign

It's always a good idea to learn from the masters.

How to Win

Send us a photo featuring a sign with a great message and lots of people or cars traveling past it. If it generates press, it wouldn't hurt to send us a url or a clipping.

Grand Prizes
Second and Third Place Prizes
Rules
  1. Signs must be placed near roadways or pedestrian pathways on or near campus.
  2. Photos of the signs must demonstrate that the sign can be viewed by many people (people or cars in the foreground)
  3. Submit your entries here no later than September 30, 2005.
  4. Vaughn adds this:
Make sure the sign really kicks ass, it's easy to see, and it's clear that it is not a fake. I'm a Photoshop master, so don't f&*k with me and you will get your musical device -- grasshopper. Perhaps take photos of the sign making process including the hanging of it?

I am employed by a large community college in the Bay Area. I have mostly unrestricted access to the classrooms and other buildings on campus. I'm not an instructor but I am a rather visible member of the student support services staff.
Does this give me an unfair advantage? Actually last fall I managed to bombard every classroom with anti-Bush flyers, logos, you name it. And I did it at taxpayer expense (my "work" time and the copier and paper).

I'm looking forward to the challenge as we have a rather virulent form of College Republicans on campus.

I'm a little disturbed that these young Repubs have so many honeys in their ranks. They've got some cute girls! Guys, I promise not to steal them if you sign up and support he war that you support.

I might show them a good time... but I won't steal them. Seriously, guys, sign up! I fear commitment!

I don't think that gives you an unfair advantage, but that's why I'm sponsoring second and third prizes - to encourage entries.

Recruit [crossed-out and replaced with Enlist, crossed-out and replaced with Draft] College Republicans is one idea.

What a bunch of Crap....

I find it amusing that the so called free thinking Liberals are starting a public campaign to harrass people who have a different point of view than yourselves.

The same old stupid cries over and over. If your going to support the countries military actions you can't speak about it unless you serve. Do you know how pathetic and silly that makes you all sound?

The so called supporters of free speach and minority rights have created a campaign to attack others that don't think as they do.

Your actions are the same as giving prizes to people for putting up posters to harrass Blacks, Gays, Women, etc.. The only difference is that your replacing one of those groups with conservatives.

What would your reaction be if a campaign that plastered posters ostrasizing any whites for supporting Civil Rights? and prizes would be given to the best poster.

The lack of understanding on the basis in which "bush" lead this country to war should be cause of concern for all. However the previous poster shows his clear lack of moral or ethical concerns about the lies that "bush" spoke.

He can talk the talk but can he walk the walk. If he supports this illegal (read the Dalfour Report or read David Kay) war then that poster should join up.

uh, no. the only difference is that we're replacing one of those groups with conservatives that are too cowardly to enlist and serve in the same war they are supposedly "supporting," but are more than happy to have other americans send their sons and daughters to their deaths.

Same as it was in 1948.

We disowned Strom Thurmond decades ago.

You could learn.

"Have you noticed that those "Support our troops" stickers are MAGNETS?"

I heartily endorse this effort to shame cowardly young warmongers into questioning this ill-advised war. True conservatives should be outraged by this government's mendacious waste of American and Iraqi lives; by its waste of US' good name; and by its waste of US taxpayers' money.

Bring the troops home now. Take care of them when they get here.

Hey Helen,
You're a discrace to Americans and College Republicans alike. I hope you are not Republican. If you are, then I believe you should switch parties pronto. We only want Americans in the GOP.

And yes to Mike M. above, GOP girls are definitely hot.
