Serve or starve = good soldier
Serve & starve = bad soldier
Wonder if they'll be so nice once their checks stopped coming.
American Express and AIG need some more bonus money.

A good friend of mine is an instructor at a big-city (well, moderately big-city) police academy. He has been there long enough to go through several economic cycles. Unsurprisingly, he says that when times are good, the quality of their recruits goes way down and they end up accepting people they're not really all that happy with, but that in economic downturns they can be much more selective. He anticipates an excellent new class.
