Polk County, Georgia: Real Republican Americans

Operation Yellow Elephant salutes Polk County, Georgia, whose residents, according to the Washington Post, actually have sons and daughters, relatives and neighbors serving in Iraq. Their Congressional District in northwest Georgia is "strongly Republican;" former First Lady Barbara Bush helped out Rep. Phil Gingrey (R, of course) during his campaign. And they're concerned about the lack of progress in Iraq.

According to Carl Forti, spokesman for the National Republican Congressional Committee, however, "National security is not something you run TV ads on in a House race."

So, Mr. Forti, what are you going to do? Your biography indicates you appear eligible for military service. [scroll down to the third item] Why don't you volunteer, like the good Republicans of Polk County? This would add credibility to Republican fulfillment of its national leadership responsibilities.

That's probably correct; for me this is a key issue to follow.

What I'm trying to do is to suggest a solution to a clear problem. Others have their own opinions, of course, but we all agree on the basic premise. See OYE 101 in the right-hand column.
