Lehigh University: A Credible College Republican
Jeffrey Shaw, ’07, president of the Lehigh University College Republicans, said the United States’ involvement in Iraq and its continued presence is absolutely necessary.
“We cannot withdraw from Iraq prematurely,” Shaw said. “Doing so would be disastrous for the U.S. and Iraq.”
Shaw said the withdrawal of U.S. troops would destroy Iraq because the nation lacks a security structure. Also, withdrawal would weaken the United States’ threat of force in future situations and give legitimacy to terrorist groups that call the United States unjust invaders, he said. “It will not be quick,” Shaw said. “It will not be easy; the right way to solve problems is rarely quick and easy.”
As he told OYE, "In response to your question about service in the military, yes I have considered joining the armed forces, and I hope to attend the U.S.Marine Corps' OCS this summer." We wish Mr. Shaw the best and hope that his example will encourage other real Americans to consider military service.
Note: We screwed up earlier and posted a draft prepared without taking Mr. Shaw's e-mail into account. I apologize to Mr. Shaw for this mistake. His comment (the first one on this post) reflects the erroneous information. I sincerely regret the error.

It has long been my intention to join the military after college, and I have already applied to attend the U.S. Marine Corps' Officer Candidates School this summer in Quantico, Virginia. Please find a better way to support our troops and the people of Iraq and Afghanistan than sending me e-mails.
Mr. Shaw-
Thank you once again for sharing your plans for service in our nation's armed forces.
We'll focus our attention on persuading other real Americans to consider military service.
We wish you the best.
