Military Recruiting Lead: Marquette University, Milwaukee, Wisconsin (#2)

Attention Military Recruiters (update):

We've identified a few Yellow Elephants at Marquette University. They're not necessarily members of the Marquette College Republicans, but they've come forward via comments on a story about this post earlier this month. Click here for their thread, then scroll down.

First, the commentary included in the article:

We have heard ever since the presidential election of 2004 the trite, boring comment from hippies such as these that you cannot support the mission unless you actually go to Iraq itself. We even heard this fallacious argument when Marquette Administrators tore down a table to support the troops in Iraq last spring.

In a volunteer military such as ours, individuals freely decide to enter the armed forces, knowing the potential of going into harm’s way. It is insulting and demeaning for liberals to pretend that American forces are anything but ready to take on hostile forces around the globe.

Those of us back home can contribute in many ways. For most Americans, this entails verbally supporting the troops and the mission they carry. Unfortunately, many hippies believe that the best way to support the troops is to wish for their failure overseas.

[OYE Comment: I guess we're supposed to think that able-bodied healthy heterosexual young men deserve respect for "fighting the battle of ideas" and "verbally supporting the troops and the mission they carry." Sorry; if the war is really worth our country's support, it's certainly worth your considering joining it yourself. If you can't even consider it, you're yellow. End OYE comment.]

Here's what Dan Maciejewski, Chairman of the Marquette University College Republicans, said:

I love the liberal line… it has become so tiresome and predictable it’s comical.

[OYE Comment: Well, Dan, if that's the best you can do in "fighting the battle of ideas," maybe you should spend your Spring Break vacation in Iraq; I'm sure our troops serving under "stop-loss" will give you a warm welcome.]

Kevin Bester says:

I am a firm believer that when you dis the mission that the troops overwhelmingly believe in, you do not support them at all. Liberals want us to lose the war to politicize that to get back into power. SHAMEFUL!

[OYE Comment: Well, Kevin, what's your opinion? If you want us to win, why aren't you helping out our troops where they need you most - in Iraq and Afghanistan?]

And Jason says:

The troops really are defending freedom… but why do you guys say we have to give up our freedom?

[OYE Comment: Well, Jason, sometimes freedom isn't free. That's what President Bush said to Veterans recently. It's all part of national leadership responsibility. End OYE Comment.]

What a load of crap!!! According to this news story 72% of the troops IN IRAQ think that the U.S. should exit the country within the next year.
This is the idiotic attempt of the right who blindly accept the lies of the Bush admin to try to stereotype the opposition to this war. Using their logic, the true American tratiors are the 72% of troops actually in Iraq.
Gee, I never knew that the idiot right wingers thought that lowly of our American Military personel.

Now that is shameful.

Wow - the 72% of troops that want the occupation to end this year sure must be traitors. Or perhaps they "overwhelmingly believe" something different from Kevin.
