Chelsea Clinton Update

from the Associated Press, May 14, 2008:
Chelsea Clinton denied access in Vieques

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico (AP) — The U.S. Navy has denied Chelsea Clinton permission to campaign for her mother on a former bombing range on a small Puerto Rican island.

Hillary Rodham Clinton's campaign wanted to use the land Wednesday as a setting to discuss the candidate's clean up plan for the region and call to give some areas to local residents.

But Navy spokeswoman Lt. Lara Bollinger said no one is allowed to campaign on federal property.

Chelsea Clinton is making her second campaign visit to Puerto Rico in the last three weeks. The U.S. territory has 55 delegates at stake in its June 1 Democratic primary.

The Navy closed the range in Vieques in April 2003 following years of protests after two errant bombs killed a security guard.
OYE Comment:

If Ms. Clinton is seeking access to military bases to campaign for her mother for the Democratic nomination for President, our media should be asking her whether she has even considered visiting a military base in another capacity, one of selfless service to our nation.

They would certainly let Chelsea on Vieques if she was serving in the Navy or Marine Corps.

Her campaign activities on behalf of her mother ,however, would be severely curtailed.

That sounds like a good trade-off for America to me.

Roger that! and if more politico's, neo- convict's and chickenhawks would send their little tax right-off's to fight the "war" on terror, the Pro's might get a break for a while before we manufacture the next war. Or maybe they could just give up golf, I mean after all "W" has made the ultimate sacrifice and given up the game (most likely because he sucks at golf also!).

XOXOX Diablo (the great)

It's not a military base. It's a closed down bombing range in need of environmental cleanup.

It's no more an active military facility than Fort Sumter.

It's not active, but it is still federal property... as such, campaigning is prohibited.

Right. I believe it's managed by the Department of the Interior now.

Boy, OYE probably has a bunch right wing nutcases heads spinning with their bipartisan approach to calling out yellow elephants.

Kind of ruins thier assertation that they only go after republicans who support the war.

OYE, who is a College Democrat who has never served in uniform, was essentially shamed into going after just one Democrat. If Hillary were currently the frontrunner amongst the Democrats, OYE never would have mentioned Chelsea's lack of military service. Of course, the Green Baboons would have been more consistent if they had called for Chelsea to enlist when her father was launching a preemptive strike against Iraq and an illegal war of choice against Kosovo.

No, I am not now, nor have I ever been, a College Democrat. In fact, when I was in college, I don't recall there even being any College Democrats. Certainly not as prominent then as the College Republicans are now.

We only started mentioning Ms. Chelsea Clinton on this blog after the national media Asked The Question of Ms. Jenna Bush. Absent a specific reason like that, we don't ask females why they're not serving in our military.

The College Democrats have been around since 1932. But, of course, that was prior to 2001 so it's immaterial to you.

Given the fact that you're too cowardly to use your real name here, we really have no way to verify this claim. Given the partisan nature of your blog, we really cannot take your word on this or any other issue.

"Absent a specific reason like that, we don't ask females why they're not serving in our military."

Why not? Unlike you and your fellow Green Baboons, millions of women have served in the military. If your argument is that those who support our efforts in Iraq should enlist, why shouldn't women enlist so more men are available for combat roles?
