St. Lucie County FL Republican Club - In Focus

It's really wonderful that the good people at the St. Lucie County (FL) Republican Club are hosting a barbecue fundraiser at their local Yacht Club to benefit a college scholarship fund for 17-year-old Anthony Bonna.

Young Mr. Bonna is a committed Young Republican and a serious political junkie, so we're quite pleased that the St. Lucie County Republicans are one of the Thousand Points of Light.

Of course, one wonders why they neglected to inform Mr. Bonna of the excellent college tuition money available for serving in the U.S. military, especially as service in the Global War on Terrorism will certainly boost his inevitable political career.

Let's encourage the St. Lucie County Republican Club to Support Their President!

Sent my letter:

I just read your article about proud Young Republican Anthony Bonna's fundraiser for school. However, I think his tactic is unnecessary: Mr. Bonna should raise the money he needs and serve his country at the same time.

It's a fact that the US Army, the Marines, and the National Guard are all facing recruiting shortfalls, which is making it more difficult to win the war in Iraq. Our soldiers in the field have probably lost count of their tours of duty, and knowing that enlistment is down can't be good for morale. As a Republican, I am sure Mr. Bonna supports the President and will answer the call to enlistment he made at Fort Bragg two weeks ago. Not only is military service good for the country, it's a good way to raise funds for college through the GI Bill. As Mr. Bonna points out "If you want to make decisions that affect the world, you need to really live the world," and service in the miltary will give him the experience he needs.
Mr. Bonna, your country needs you, and I hope you will answer the call.

"It's always been my philosophy to reach as far as you can," said Anthony, who graduated from St. Lucie West Centennial High School last month.

In the Army, you can Be All That You Can Be, Anthony.

Mr. Bonna will best serve this nation and this world by getting an outstanding education at Georgetown. We should all in good spirit wish him well on this exciting journey.

That's great. Why don't you guys just continue to bash the few efforts we get from our youth to actually get involved and make a difference in our government. I'll sleep better tonight knowing that none of you are up there making decisions.

Looky what we have here. A couple of nameless liberal weiners that always have something
"intelligent" to say. It is always easier to criticize those who are doing well from the anonymity of your own home huh? I bet you think you are filling some important role in our society by surfing the web searching for a place where you can bestow upon the rest of us your pointless meandering cutdowns. Well then, let me commend you on a shitty job done well. Lets thank God for young students like Anthony that do not prefer to be a nameless bitch. Lets also pray to whoever it is you pray to that none of our young people follow in your footsteps. I am sure Mr. Bonna is aware of any and all opportunities that may await him in the armed services. But be aware that thanks to our great country it is his right and privelege to choose. For that nameless soul that wrote
"he's probably gay so he can't join", could you be any more of a jackass? Not that Anthony is gay, but I think you should know that our armed services has recently adopted the "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy which allows homosexuals to serve in our miltary without discrimatation. But in all of your obvious infinite political wisdom I am sure you already know that.

First, I would like to see it's just like liberals to attack-- that's all they do... Since they can't win elections or debates on tough issues they attack. They have attacked a war meant to keep us safe. They have attacked our family values. They have attacked the manner in which terrorists should be treated. But all that is not enough. Now they have to attack a 17 year old and his attempt to make it in the world, on his own, with the help of his friends. I refuse to sit idly by and see some of the words written to describe young anthony. He is from a home which most of us would have had a hard time growing up in. He is a kid that has survived more than anyone in this blog and has thrived doing it. I dont see anyone on this blog signing up to go fight. I dont see any of you holding fundraisers to help underpriviledged kids get to school. You have pefectly illustrated why Republicans are better than liberals. We care. We care about young Anthony and we care about making sure people have what they need to succeed. I dare you to come back and urge you to halt this senseless assualt on a kid going to college and refocus your energy someone who you can be compared to--- Anthony Bonna is way out of your league.

Well if all you high & mighty democrats are so in favor of joining the military for your education - let's see the list of Democratic leaders children that are in military service so we can cut your inflated salaries as you won't have to pay for all that tuition either! Also just like this party to speak without all the facts!!!!! THAT'S WHY I AM A REGISTERED REPUBLICAN AND DAMN PROUD OF IT!

Wow,
It is disgusting to hear how you people feel about a young man who is really doing something with his life, and is so passionate about something that has so much to do with each and every one of us. It makes me sick how you can sit hear only to judge and ridicule him for following his dream, something that most of you never put forth such an effort to do. I am not going to sit here and critisize the democratic party because I am better then that. You have purposely degraded one of the best young men I know only to satisfy your misery. You all need to GROW UP and concentrate on making your lives better (maybe Mr.Bonna can lecture you on goal setting) and who knows, Maybe a young person from your political party will be as succesful as Mr.Bonna.
Sincerely,
Jessie Ellen

My views are as liberal as they come, and I think this is a seriously sad display. Republican or not, I would like for someone who is a future leader of this country to be educated, beyond learning how to pull a trigger.

Losers!!! What have YOU done? This boy has accomplished SO much! You do not even know him! I will become a U.S. Marine someday, and i'm appalled to see some of these comments. I know that Anthony supports our troops. There are so many organizations that raise funds for troops. Don't you think just ONE can help a great, deserving guy to college. With the help of these people, I KNOW Anthony will be something big someday. And the people chosing to attack him? Well they'll be sitting at their little computers, eating cheesy poofs, attacking people who are actually doing something in their lives, even though they are doing nothing themselves. These people should find something better to do than putting someone down, for their dreams, and for what they believe. They should realize, that not everyone has their same views and opinions, and that they are not te only group of right people in our great nation.

I feel sorry for these outspoken, uneducated loud mouths, who have nothing better to do with their time, that have tried to spread their negativity! Their families should be ashamed of the way they raised them! It's because of people like this that this world is in the trouble it is.

Continue to strive and follow your beliefs my little cousin, you will rise above all and make a difference in this world!
I am so proud of you! God bless you!!
