Army Misses Recruiting Target for May 2007
Although monthly recruiting quotas are seasonally adjusted, the Army missed its target for May 2007 by 399 soldiers. 5,101 real American patriots enlisted; the target was 5,500. This last happened two years ago. [We accept the Army's explanation re September 2006, when it reached its fiscal year quota of 80,000 in mid-month and saved the recruits in the pipeline for the next fiscal year beginning in October.] Money quote:
"I think the amazing thing is we're getting 80,000 patriotic Americans a year to join an Army at war," said Lt. Col. Bryan Hilferty, a spokesman for the Army general staff department responsible for personnel issues.
We certainly hope that this is just a glitch. And sustained commitment by our national civilian political leadership to support military service will ensure that many more real American patriots will Be A Man! Enlist!
