Sen. Lindsey Graham (SC), a Credible Republican

Operation Yellow Elephant salutes Senator Lindsey Graham, South Carolina Republican, as the only U.S. Senator to have served on active duty in Iraq. [This was piggy-backed onto a recent Congressional Delegation visit to Iraq with fellow Republican Senator John McCain of Arizona.]

While we don't know if Senator Graham has urged those eligible to serve [healthy heterosexuals 41 and under] to show their support for President Bush and our country's policy objectives in Iraq, Afghanistan and elsewhere by volunteering for military service, his personal example is quite compelling. I would find Graham's sacrifice more compelling if this weren't the first time he had deployed to Iraq. I would find it more compelling if he had spent more than 8 days there. I would find it truly compelling if he had been carrying a rifle, without being surrounded by an entire company if infantry.

"Colonel" Graham, my ass.
