Heads Up to the Loyal Opposition!

Andrew Sullivan endorses divided government, vis-a-vis our current arrangement whereby one party controls both Houses of Congress as well as the White House. [President Bush has vetoed a single bill (not on our topic).] However, with divided government comes shared responsibility.

If you're a Republican concerned about national security who still (somehow) believes the Republicans are better at it, your president won't change. But he will be forced out of denial and compelled to face reality. The Democrats, in a divided government, will also have to take responsibility for the hard choices involved in wartime. So divided government is win-win right now.

Don't worry; we'll still be Operation Yellow Elephant and our current governing party will still control the White House, no matter what happens November 7 in the performance review with all real Americans (those who vote). But the loyal opposition is on notice:

With power and authority come at least sharing in the national leadership responsibility to set a good example for the rest of us.
