The All Talk Hawk

File this one under 'not sure how I missed this the first time'- Ambush journalist, Jason Mattera, the guy that brought us "I'm fighting the battle for ideas" when pressed by Chris Matthews about not serving in a war he supports, confronted Congressman John Murtha with a barrage of questions.

Unfortunately he dodged Veteran Murtha's question "You been in the service?".

OYE Comment: You too can support the "Battle for Ideas" by sending an E-mail to Mr. Mattera and encourage him to have more credibility when confronting a decorated Veteran by enlisting himself. Hey, it's just an idea.

You know, credibility aside, Jason Mattera does have a point. Those Marines were dragged through the mud for no reason. As a veteran, Murtha should have known better than to act the way he did throughout that debacle.

Mr. Mattera will never face the difficulties that those Marines did, but at least he was one of the few who supported them during a difficult time.

Robert- whether Mr. Mattera has a point or not (it is beyond the focus of OYE and it has been discussed on numerous other blog sites) we were pleased to see that he was at least asked the question about his service and we hope that this will at least make him consider enlisting.

As always, thanks for your comment.

Right Wingers like Mattera fetishize the Military to such an extent that they go absoulutely apeshit at any suggestion that our troops could misbehave under the pressures of combat.
I served in the Army paratroopers.
I come from a family of service people.
I respect military service.

So does Murtha He knows how it is

Mattera only has the vauge mostly romantic Idea of what it is like to be in a war. Something about paladins fighting in the battle of good vs evil

Actually, it's not exactly the whole story. Charges have been dropped but several marines are still going to trial.

Additionally, eight marines including a ZERO gained immunity to testify.

As robash141 states Mattera and others have only a vague romanticized version of War and the military.

Immunity was given to Blackwater agents for Sept 2007 shootings in Baghdad. Does this mean they are innocent?

Incidents such as Haditha are why you don't go to war on a whim and a prayer...

"Mr. Mattera will never face the difficulties that those Marines did..."

And why not?

Answer that question and you will know what a chickenhawk is.
