A little late on this one, but here you go...

Apologize for the long time between posts. Anyway here's a video of Republican Congressman, Aaron Schock, wetting his pants about moving the Guantanamo prisoners to a maximum security prison in Illinois.

Aaron might have learned about courage had he enlisted in The Military. Still it doesn't prevent him from using Uncle Sam's image on his website.

Home Front: Supporting Our Troops: Yes, You Can!

If the College and Young Republicans, and their counterparts in the Democratic Party and associated political movements, really want to Support Our Troops without volunteering to serve themselves, here's one specific thing they can do:

Know your neighbors, including [especially] if a family is military and has someone deployed - usually the husband/father, but not always; this applies regardless of gender. If your neighborhood gets some snow, shovel their snow for them - unless they object. Don't wait to be asked; please just take the initiative and stop by with your shovel and let them know you and your friends would like to do this for them - unless they object. They won't, of course, but it's still polite to check first. Don't accept anything other than a thank you and a warm drink and a snack.

There's no need to call the media or anything; just do something for the family that the man of the house would be doing if he weren't deployed or running everything by himself. And, if you want to be seen as a leader in your community, please encourage others [even if not eligible to serve] to do the same for anyone in need. Word of mouth is far more powerful than mere publicity.

We wish everyone the best for the holiday season.

DADT: The Cowardice of Governance

We're not feeling too hopey about 'Don't Ask, Don't Tell' ending anytime soon. Neither is AMERICAblog.
Next year is an election year, and Democrats are now officially in full freak out mode. Democrats in the House announced today that they won't touch any "controversial" legislation until and unless the Senate acts first. Among the list of "controversial" topics are gay issues, labor issues, and Latino issues -- specifically, immigration reform, the Employee Free Choice Act (EFCA) and the repeal of Don't Ask, Don't Tell. That pretty much sums up a good chunk of the Democratic base.

Sure fellas, whatever is convenient for you.

All the whiny kids that used to get their asses kicked on the school bus go on to become College Republicans. See more here.
A Christian civil liberties organization on Thursday asked centrist Virginia Rep. Tom Perriello (D) to move his home district office to a location more favorable to protesters.

The Rutherford Institute, which was founded by conservative constitutional lawyer John W. Whitehead, penned a letter to the freshman Perriello citing the concerns of a local tea party group and the University of Virginia College Republicans that the location of his Charlottesville office interferes with their right to protest there.

Daddy's Girl

Really, the 14th District in IL can do better than Ethan Hastert.
"Dennis Hastert is the very kind of Republican that voters resoundingly rejected in 2006. I don't believe Ethan will be able to get past that, regardless of how far 'right' he runs in the primary. Voters are tired of actors. They want real leadership," Purcell said. "It is extremely important that Republicans take back the 14th Congressional District from Bill Foster and Nancy Pelosi. But the only way this will happen is if Republicans nominate a conservative candidate not plugged into the 'establishment' that is responsible for losing our majority in Congress."
How pathetic is one's campaign when they have to roll in a 1990's era chickenhawk icon?
Former Speaker Newt Gingrich (R-Ga.) will headline a fundraiser Dec. 11 for Illinois congressional candidate Ethan Hastert.

Hastert, an attorney, is running for the seat of his former House Speaker father, Dennis (R). He faces primary opposition from state Sen. Randy Hultgren, among others, but he has secured much of the establishment's support.
Here it is folks. This is how power is passed from one generation to the next without having to earn the respect of the constituents. Ethan's only service to our country was as a Bush staffer. Not very impressive considering he wouldn't have been able to get his dick in the door without the help of his old man.

Too Few Shouldering the Cost

Bob Herbert calls out the newest Yellow Elephants. (Via - also an excellent read)
I spoke recently with a student at Columbia who was enthusiastic about the escalation of U.S. forces in Afghanistan. He argued that a full-blown counterinsurgency effort, which would likely take many years and cost many lives, was the only way to truly win the war.

He was a very bright young man: thoughtful and eager and polite. I asked him if he had any plans to join the military and help make this grand mission a success. He said no.

Iraq Veteran Running for Congress

Libertarian Adam Kokesh will run for Congress in New Mexico's 3rd district. Unlike the coward Ethan Hastert, Mr. Kokesh has served Our Country in uniform and didn't have to depend on his father to kick start his career. And unlike Marco Rubio, Adam doesn't dodge the issues about Veterans and National Security.

Below is an exchange from earlier this year featuring Adam and Uncle Jimbo from Blackfive. The exchange was relatively entertaining considering they don't exactly see things eye-to-eye.

Update: Adam Kokesh lost the Republican primary.

Dan Savage addresses the never ending DADT

(via)

It sure would be nice if President Obama would try to keep gays in the Military. Particularly after announcing an additional 30,000 Soldiers and Marines will be sent to Afghanistan next year. Our Country can use as many guys and gals in uniform as we can get.

Keyboard Kommando Retreats from E-mail Assault

Overall being a contributor at OYE is pretty easy. I come across a gutless, love-to-hate joker and I write about them. Simple. Usually if I ever hear from one of these clowns they'll send me an email, call me an "asshole", I'd laugh, and that'd be the end of it.

Yet sometimes I strike comedic gold, as what happened when I recently received a tip about a potential Yellow Elephant. A chest-thumper at Political Byline posted a video of combat footage from the Iraq War and wrote "I love posting stuff like this, because makes the Paleo-Conservative cowards and the liberal sissies heads explode!"

Intrigued, I sent him the following email asking how he has supported the war other than being another Guardian of the Keyboard:
I just read your weekend "War Porn" post and it prompted me to ask you a few questions.

Are you a veteran? [If so, thank you for your service.] Are you in ROTC/OCS/something similar? [If so, thank you for your commitment.] Have you previously contacted a recruiter, but were not accepted for enlistment? [If so, thank you for stepping forward.] Do you know that you are not eligible to serve in our military, and therefore don't want to waste a recruiter's time? [If so, please let us know and we won't seek to contact you again.]

Otherwise, it would appear that you are eligible to serve in our military (healthy heterosexual well under 41), but have not. Have you at least considered it? What resulted from your deliberations? If you haven't even considered it, why not? How credible is your 'support' for the troops if you only want "other people" to actually to fight in the ongoing wars?We welcome your response for publication on our blog.

Sincerely,

Erik Wekerle of
Operation Yellow Elephant

And this is the courageous response I received (bold in original).

I've looked at your blog. (it's called Google) and I see that you are a liberal. I have no intention of answering your question. Because I know the idiotic game that you are trying to play against me here and I am not interested in playing it. My personal life is none of your damned business.

Let me also warn you. You publish anything on that idiotic liberal blog of yours, that Ido not happen to like and I will SUE you in a court of law. A do not tolerate libelsagainst me and it seems your making a profit from smearing Conservatives. I will not tolerate it. I will sue, if need be. If you don't like what I write on my blog; then do not read it. Simple as that. You can criticize what I write, that is fine. But if you smear ME. I will SUE YOU. Period. I happen to have a good friend, who is a lawyer and will take my case pro-bono.

Further more, before you write and smear me. Know this. I am a unemployed, Disabled, man, who has not worked since 2005. Full time since 2000. I started blogging in 2006, As a "Left of center" blogger. I switched sides because of the bullshit that happened in this election.

Further more, do not contact me again, ever. If you do, I will file stalking charges against you as well.

A pro-boner lawyer? File stalking charges? Huh? Not very manly, I might add. Particularly after condemning others as "cowards" and "sissies". In fact it's probably reason enough for one to take a scalpel to his own testicles, say "I won't be needing these anymore" and be done with it.

NOTE: Contrary to what Patrick indicated I've never received any $ as a contributor to OYE. Besides, I make so much money from ACORN I would turn it down if offered.
