Time is a wasting

He's starting to sound like a high schooler saying "I know I should have mowed the lawn today, but I promise I'll do it tomorrow..."
President Obama defended his policies on gay rights on Monday, telling an audience of gay men and lesbians that he remained committed to overturning the military's "don't ask, don't tell" rule that he expected to be judged "not by promises I've made but by the promises my administration keeps".

Let's see if he'll keep it in time for this serviceman to salvage his career:
Lt. Col. Victor Fehrenbach, an Air Force officer who is facing expulsion proceedings after someone informed his superiors that he is gay, attended the reception as a guest of the Servicemembers Legal Defense Network, which is challenging the policy.

".....why should I put my life on the line?"

Alexander Marlow a movie critic for Big Hollywood, a website dedicated to attempting to prove Sponge Bob Square Pants has a liberal bias, penned a review of a Iraq War movie to be released in July.

After OYE read through his bio letting us know about him rubbing elbows with A-List celebrities as a teen, we moved onto his poorly written review where he curiously revealed this:
I am a young man, athletic, incredibly attractive, and spent three-and-a-half years fending off hippies in Berkeley. I have not ruled out a stint in the military. The question I ask myself frequently is why would I put my life on the line?

OYE Comment: Just take your time, Mr. Marlowe, and make up your mind about joining The Military whenever it's convenient for you. We'd really hate for your career to become interrupted by serving your country. After all, getting killed in combat is for other people.

We do not care about this movie what-so-ever. Like most films we expect it to be garbage and we probably will not view it unless we're flipping through the channels a decade from now and it happens to be on at 1:00 AM on a low-rent cable network.

We do care about Mr. Marlow and helping him not rule out "a stint in the military" to better write his future reviews about war. Like most College Republicans he'll need more encouragement than what his inner self is capable of. Please feel welcome to E-mail Alexander and suggest a branch of The Military he should consider.

NOTE: For a thorough take down of this joker please read Army of Dude (major Hat Tip to AoD) and the comments at Fark.com (nearly all 300 comments are hilarious).

Best Selling 'badass'

This gentleman is too old to serve. Yet, when he is mocked it's still worth noting (this could be your cowardly future, Young Republicans). Emphasis below: OYE
Andrew Klavan is a right-wing writer who, according to his Wikipedia page, specializes in "tough-guy" novels; writes for "Pajamas Media"; and believes George Bush is similar to Dark Knight's Batman because both "understand that there is no moral equivalence" between our society and the Evil Ones and that the Evil Ones "must be hounded to the gates of Hell." When Klavan demands that the Terrorists "be hounded to the gates of Hell," he means that he wants other men and women to do the hounding, as Klavan, born in 1954, has never served in the military.

Credible Leadership

OYE would like to thank former College Republican George Culpepper Jr. for stepping up.
As a teenager, Culpepper moved to Anchorage, Alaska, to live with his father and finish high school. He played the tuba, sang in the school choir and was active in the Junior Reserve Office Training Corps. His father had served in the military and at one point was stationed at the Panama Canal.

"The military was always part of my life," he recalled.

It was natural, then, for Culpepper to enlist in the U.S. Marine Corps in 1995.

...now playing on Jason Mattera's iPod

We didn't think we'd see them again. Should have known Fox News would have given them a platform.

Note to Mike Huckabee: Don't ever mention Russell Simmons on the same program along with these 2 pet rocks.

The Redcoats are coming

Princes William and Harry have little in common with the overwhelming majority of College/Young Republicans.
Britain's Prince William has hinted he would like to follow in the army-booted footsteps of his younger brother and fight on the front line.

But, as the future king, it's unlikely William would be exposed to the dangers faced by Prince Harry, who served in Afghanistan.

"I still remain hopeful there's a chance," William, who is currently training to fly search-and-rescue helicopters, told reporters. "I think as a future leader of the armed forces, it's really important you at least get the opportunity to be credible and to do the job I signed up for, as best I can. That's all I want to do."

DADT Jackazz of the Week

It's really pathetic when an old goon doesn't recognize that the times have passed him by.
I don't understand what the big deal is. All you have to do is not tell anyone if you're gay. You can be gay in your private life, but in most cases as long as you don't advertise it, no problem.

I've never been in the military, but I know enough about it to say that most service members don't spend most of their time in foxholes but rather in situations and environments that resemble civilian workplaces, where I've been for 40 years.

OYE Comment: Wow! He bravely sat in an office for 40 years. IM-PRESS-IVE.

Essentially what he's saying is as long as you STFU and stop thinking like a member of the Village People you can stay in The Military. Notice though he conveniently fails to address that if someone in civilian life says "I'm gay" they get to keep their job. In the Military, not so much.

Regardless of this idiot, it's not as though Congress and President Obama are stepping up to the plate on this issue either.

"We need to find our Happy Meal"

Holy Jeebus. Didn't realize the CRNC Convention went over like a lead balloon. I've been to Gamblers Anonymous meetings with more attendees.

The turnout was less-than-thrilling. Attending the more well-known speakers, such as McCain, Steele, and Pawlenty, audiences barely reached 200 people. A significantly smaller group attended the others.

Those numbers seem worse when you consider that according to the blog of outgoing National Committee Chairman Charlie Smith, there were 203,000 proud College Republicans on 1,800 campuses in all 50 states.

The CR's have followed some bad advice in the past, so let's hope they ignore Elicia Huffaker, who suggests using the McDonald's strategy.

"They don't advertise dead cow meat, they advertise a Big Mac or Happy Meal," Huffaker said. "We need to find our Happy Meal or Big Mac in order to energize the party."
Yeah, she really said it. You can check it out here. We would have posted the video had CBS not disabled the embed code.

Get to know Zach

In all seriousness we do hope that Mr. Howell does succeed in leading the College Republicans toward credibility. He'd really have to work hard to be worse than the booger-eating moron, Charlie Smith. In fact, we'll set the standard really low: If Zach can walk across his office without stumbling over the furniture he'll surpass Mr. Smith.
Zach Howell's office is empty, save for a football tucked under a desk and a lone yellow bumper sticker on the wall: "College Republicans make great leaders. You're following one."

Howell, a 23-year-old from Sandy, is taking that advice to heart as he assumes his new role as chairman of the College Republican National Committee.

Passing the match, errr, I mean torch

Sad news. Charlie Smith, the College Republican National Chairman, has concluded his term. But don't worry, the CR's have elected an even paler, frailer dude to lead them.

We concluded the jam-packed, three day event with the election of our National Executive Board. I'm proud to have the opportunity to introduce to you the newly elected National Chairman for the next two years, Zach Howell. Originally from Utah, Zach has served as the State Chairman of the Utah Federation of College Republicans and most recently, as the Western Region Vice-Chairman for the National Committee.

A bit off topic

A bit off topic, but anything mocking College Republicans is noteworthy. (H/T: Oliver Willis)
On the first point: Most speakers exhorted the students to recruit more black and Hispanic members, to get outside the stuffy-white-guy stereotype that follows the party like a shadow. This became especially awkward at Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty's keynote speech, where seven white guys—including the College Republican of the Year, white guy Leigh Wolf—sat on the dais to his right. Last year's national leadership had three women; this year's has none. According to those present, in his speech, RNC Chairman Michael Steele singled out the one black woman in the room for special recognition.

But for one long-haired guy unaccountably sporting a red T-shirt that read "I am the revolution" on Saturday morning, the 200-person crowd generally matched the stereotype of a College Republican convention: well-groomed, power-suited Southerners punctuated with the occasional seersucker ensemble or platinum blonde.

Latest Polling on DADT

Don't know what the holdup is? Overturning "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" would not negatively effect the Obama administration's #'s.
Americans are six percentage points more likely than they were four years ago to favor allowing openly gay men and lesbian women to serve in the military, 69% to 63%. While liberals and Democrats remain the most supportive, the biggest increase in support has been among conservatives and weekly churchgoers -- up 12 and 11 percentage points, respectively.

Winner-Winner, Chicken Dinner!

(Is that a purse over his shoulder?)

...and the 2009 College Republican of the Year goes to
Leigh Wolf graduated from San Francisco State University this spring and most recently served as Co-Chair of the California College Republicans. In 2008 under Leigh's leadership, SFSU was named College Republican National Committee Chapter of the Year. Ultimately, he was successful in leading the most effective chapter in the country.

Leigh will be honored on Friday during our Biennial Convention in Washington, D.C. During the convention, we'll also be electing the next National Chairman of the College Republicans.
OYE Comment: Big ups to Leigh! The times you sucked up to Bill O'Reilly and stood in front of Jeff Spicoli clearly have paid off. We are honored to have had you drop by in the comment sections of this site. Please remember Operation Yellow Elephant in your acceptance speech.

Suspect Taken In

Update on the Recruiting Station shooting.
LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — A Muslim convert who already was under federal investigation pleaded not guilty Tuesday in what police called a likely “political and religious” attack that killed a young soldier at a military recruiting center.

Abdulhakim Muhammad, 23, of Little Rock, was charged in Monday’s death of Pvt. William Long, 23, of Conway outside an Army-Navy Career Center in a west Little Rock shopping center. He pleaded not guilty to a capital murder charge and was ordered held without bail.

Soldiers Shot at Recruiting Station

Terrible. Really terrible.
LITTLE ROCK, Arkansas (AFP) – Two soldiers were shot, one fatally, outside a military recruiting center in Arkansas Monday and police said they swiftly captured a man suspected in the drive-by shooting.

"Right now we know very little about the suspect," said Little Rock Arkansas police Lieutenant Terry Hastings.

The man "gave himself up without incident" after leading police on a brief chase, Hastings told CNN.
