THE STRANGER TALKS TO OUR GENERAL

At Atrios, I caught this news story:
Seattle's Only Features Section • Jul 21 - Jul 27, 2005
THE STRANGER PRESENTS

BY ELI SANDERS
Somewhere in Washington State, in a conservative town he would rather not name, is a lonely liberal man with a high-speed internet connection, a sarcastic wit, and a suggestion for how the U.S. military might fill its recruiting gaps: With pro-war College Republicans.

The man calls himself General J.C. Christian, Patriot, and he runs the online campaign "Operation Yellow Elephant," which has been exhorting young conservatives to carry their support of the Iraq war to its logical conclusion by enlisting for duty on the front lines.
Looks like our Army is Recruiting...attention at least!

No Young Republicans are signing up. I read yesterday that the Pentagon changed the age of enlistment upwards to 41 years old so maybe those whipper snapper's dads and moms can sign up!
This pisses the General off, as do Republicans in his small town who lecture him about his lack of patriotism when he voices opposition to the war. So when the General heard about the military recruiting shortfalls, his mind immediately turned to the young Republican movement: "I thought, 'Well, these people are always talking about patriotism, and always equating patriotism with support for the war, it's time that they walk the walk.'" That sentiment is summed up on his web site, operationyellowelephant.blogspot.com, with the motto: "It's their war. Why aren't they fighting it?"
Well! Prove us wrong, all Bush lovers! Sign up today, sign up no matter what, sign up even if they arrest you like they did those grannies in Tucson.

Just sign up, will ya?

As much fun as it is calling their bluff, this would be a whole lot more fun if they actually argued against it.

I would suggest looking at ROTC programs. My guess is that, even in Red State colleges, ROTC participation is down. I know that in my local Blue State universtiy, UC Berkeley, participation is running on fumes.

oh my dar Duffman but they did, but our MS is just now really starting to pick up on it. All thanks for that is due to the great Operation Yellow Elephant. As with any Cause, we must work harder. Write more letters to editors all over the country. Call into talk radio, especially Conservative Talk Radio, remember to argue for why Democrats aren't fighting, then lead into why the Yellow Elephants aren't enlisting either even as the pResident called them to arms.

Max Blumenthal was able to get current quotes and rationales
A snippet:

"By the time I encountered Cory Bray, a towering senior from the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School of Business, the beer was flowing freely. "The people opposed to the war aren't putting their asses on the line," Bray boomed from beside the bar. Then why isn't he putting his ass on the line? "I'm not putting my ass on the line because I had the opportunity to go to the number-one business school in the country," he declared, his voice rising in defensive anger, "and I wasn't going to pass that up."

Adam Smeltz got you stuff that MSM ignored in 2004 before the election, war nearly a year and half old by then....
http://www.truthout.org/docs_04/090304X.shtml

Snippet:
"...Some have friends in the military in Iraq and are considering enlisting; others said they can better support the war by working politically in the United States; and still others said they think the military doesn't need them because the U.S. presence in Iraq is sufficient....."As long as there's a steady stream of volunteers, I don't see why I necessarily should volunteer," said Lee, who has a cousin deployed in the Middle East.... "I think I could do more here," Hokel said, adding that she's focusing on political action that supports the war and the troops. "We don't have to be there physically to fight it," she said...Similarly, 20-year-old Jeff Shafer, a University of Pennsylvania student, said vital work needs to be done in the United States. There are Republican policies to maintain and protect and an economy to sustain, Shafer said....."

There's nothing I'd like more than to see that self-rightous, smug hack shaking in her army boots.

Since 'Anonymous' is 'brave' enought to leave her name. I can only surmise that she must be that great patriotic yellow chickenhawk George Prescott Bush. That's right, Jeb's son. Why is it that this perfectly elibible pretty-boy pussy is not serving in Falluja rather than being in law school? Must be, like Uncle Yellow Dick, that he must have 'other priorities' at the time.

GOT TO PAY TO PLAY

If you support the war, go fight it
If you don't, stay away
If you're dirty with oil money
Got to pay to play

Gasoline is expensive
Our proud country will not beg
Sign up, Bush supporters
Spend an arm and a leg

(chorus)
Oh, momma done raised you
For the weekends on the lake
Oh, daddy done praised you
For your smile that is fake
You done had the better part
Of the pie we all enjoy
Time to go to Iraq
Time to deploy
Get 'em--ha ha!

Forget about the kegger
Put that bong away
Salute the flag, buddy
Now is the time and day

It will make a man of you
And a woman it will make
Get your boots on off to Boot Camp
Or is your war support just fake?
Man, it better not be fake...

(chorus)
Oh, momma done raised you
For the weekends on the lake
Oh, daddy done praised you
For your smile that is fake
You done had the better part
Of the pie we all enjoy
Time to go to Iraq
Time to deploy
Get 'em--ha ha!

If you support the war, go fight it
If you don't, stay away
If you're dirty with oil money
Got to pay to play

Gasoline is expensive

(chorus)

so isn't mcmorris technically serving her country in congress?

At 23 July, 2005 05:55, Blogger Karl said...

yayo4yayo-

You are correct:

Just as newly commissioned 2LT Teddy Pataki, USMC, is "technically" serving his country in the Individual Ready Reserve while attending law school, Rep. McMorris is also "technically" serving her country in Congress.

The issue here is whether our country's 'leaders' in our governing party are personally serving our country where our country needs them most.

In other words, if you visit your local recruiting station and sign up, and they turn you down, then it is clear that our country does not need you in our great military.

[And with respect to 2LT Pataki, USMC, the issue is letting the Marine Corps know that he is willing and able to serve where he is most needed, and letting the Marine Corps decide.]

And if they accept you, then you will know that you are Supporting Our President where you are most needed.

You guys are doing a great job.
I hate those anti-gay republicans they suck. haha i like to suck. I love liberals they support my gay ways. Democrats should put a rainbow in with the donkey to show their support for homosexuals i would sure love it.

Its not just the republicans war
You guys need to get a clue. We all live in this country its everyones responsibility.

Well, gee, children are everyone's responsibility too, but I expect their actual parents to step up and do their job first, don't you? Long story short - this war is the Republicans' baby.

Anyway, as "Cheif ram ass" so cogently argues, Democrats are all gay lovers, so we can't enlist.

This is republicans war uh?
Even though many democrats in the senate approved it?
Sounds like every ones in it.
